POSITION SUMMARY:

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is accepting applications to fill an IT System Analyst position. The KBI is an assisting law enforcement agency that supports the Kansas Criminal Justice Information Systems and all law enforcement agencies in the state of Kansas. Our IT environment exposes technicians to a variety of exciting enterprise systems, lab equipment and specialty devices. Working for the KBI provides a great sense of pride and accomplishment.
The primary responsibility of this position is to install and maintain critical KBI IT infrastructure. Work involves supporting servers, storage and hardware, system software, and peripherals. Additionally includes troubleshooting local area (LAN) or wide area (WAN) networks along with PC support when needed. Exceptional customer service and communication skills are needed alongside strong team oriented focus but with the ability to work independently.
Experience with numerous computers in multiple domains in a professional business environment recommended.
Applicants are expected to have a passion for learning and a drive for success. Troubleshooting skills and the ability to solve complex technical issues are highly preferred. The KBI Technology Support team is demanding at times and always rewarding. We look forward to meeting you.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with experience
  • Associates degree of Tech School with experience
  • College degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or in a related field with experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One to four years configuring, installing and troubleshooting of operating systems, software, and hardware and connecting peripherals. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • CompTIA A+ and Network+ Certifications, MSCE or other relevant certifications
  • Network Troubleshooting Experience
  • Experience with:
  • Windows 10 / 11
  • Windows Server 2003 – 2022
  • LINUX – various versions
  • Inventory Control concepts
  • Cisco and Dell Switches
  • Active Directory, GPO, DHCP, DNS
  • VMware ESXi and vSphere
  • Encryption on files and hardware
  • Ticketing systems and serves as an internal escalation point within operations

Responsibilities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Provides primary LAN/PC/server support.
  • Provides application orientation and basic customer IT training.
  • Troubleshooting PCs, laptops, software, printers, drivers, faxes, Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Microsoft applications and specialized agency applications.
  • Deploying system patches on servers and workstations
  • Strong analytical skills with root cause analysis skills
  • IT Inventory management on all new and existing hardware and software licenses
  • Ability to work with hardware and software engineers to install, configure and maintain systems along with the skills to install severs and appliances from the ground up.
  • Leadership skills in working with the Tech team and assist as needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Responds to employee questions by email, in-person, or over the telephone.
  • Assists customers in obtaining system repairs or conducting the repairs directly.
  • Recommends, installs, and configures new desktop systems. Ensures user requirements are met with regards to applications installed in correlation with KBI IT Standards.
  • Ensures agency security policy is enforced by patching workstations and peripherals and following best security practices. Manages Antivirus solution on clients.
  • Develops or maintains procedures and reference material for system operation and technical support. Develops, maintains and publicizes business and system procedures for system users. Develops and maintains training materials for users or system support staff.
