JOB SUMMARY   Position Overview The I.T. Technician I is responsible for supporting, maintaining, repairing, and upgrading the Town’s computer systems, mobile in-car tablets, public safety radio communications, and related hardware. This role provides frontline technical support across all Town departments and assists in troubleshooting hardware, software, and network-related issues to ensure reliable and secure technology operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Respond to, document, and resolve service requests through the Town’s help desk system, maintaining accurate and detailed service records. * Install, configure, maintain, and support desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices, peripherals, communication systems, and networking equipment. * Serve as a liaison with technology vendors to support the integration, operation, and maintenance of Town systems. * Implement and manage system changes required by local, state, and federal regulations, particularly those related to public safety communications. * Assist with compliance efforts involving ISO, FEMA, State Law Enforcement Division, and other regulatory agencies, including adherence to NIMS guidelines. * Support procurement, installation, maintenance, and end-user training for computer, communications, and network systems. * Configure and manage user accounts, permissions, and settings in Windows domain environments and associated systems. * Ensure all devices meet Town security standards and best practices. * Maintain accurate inventory records for all IT assets, including hardware, spare parts, tools, and software licenses. * Participate in meetings, conferences, training sessions, and ongoing professional development to remain current with emerging technologies and industry best practices. Minimum Education and Experience * Experience supporting Public Safety IT systems is preferred. * High school diploma or GED required. * Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in an IT-related field. * Familiarity with Windows domain environments required. * CompTIA A+ and Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certifications are preferred but not required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Working knowledge of IT support methods, procedures, and policies relevant to municipal or enterprise environments. * Preferred knowledge of public safety radio communications, VoIP telephony systems, Microsoft 365, and Active Directory administration. * Knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, software applications, networking concepts, and diagnostic tools. * Understanding of standard IT terminology and technical documentation practices. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, vendors, and the public. * Awareness of occupational hazards and safety practices related to information technology work. * Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage tasks with minimal supervision. * Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments effectively. * Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to changing systems and processes. * Ability to analyze information and prepare clear, concise written reports and documentation. * Ability to perform minor equipment repairs and adjustments. Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to operate office and communications equipment. Work is primarily sedentary, involving prolonged periods of sitting and keyboard use. The employee must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to forty (40) pounds.
