Job Goal: The Itinerant SEECLL, Office Assistant position, is an outstanding opportunity for a motivated team player who would like to contribute talent and skills to the Somerville Early Education and Care Department to support the implementation of a comprehensive, integrated, mixed-delivery early education system in Somerville, ensuring success for all students entering kindergarten.
The Itinerant Somerville Early Education Curriculum Lending Library Office Assistant will oversee the Early Education and Care’s Lending Library housed in the Somerville Early Education Department offices at the Capuano Early Childhood Center. The position requires travel within the city to pick up and drop off lending library materials to childcare centers in the Somerville Partnership for Young Children and public preschool classrooms.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • One year of post high school education preferred
  • Driver’s license and regular access to an automobile for travel to-from multiple locations in Somerville
  • Experience working with children 3-5 years of age in school or center-based settings
  • Flexible, collaborative, and active contributor to a positive and creative work environment.
  • Technological facility with Google documents, Excel, Word, etc.
  • Possesses a desire to collaborate with others.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds
  • A second language besides English is helpful (especially Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole).

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining a positive customer service attitude
  • Management of the curriculum library’s online systems
  • Maintain accurate records of lending library materials, including tracking usage, returns, and any damaged or lost items.
  • Preparing materials for circulation
  • Coordinate and facilitate the pickup and delivery of curriculum materials to and from childcare centers and public preschool classrooms within Somerville.
  • Periodically entering new books & materials into the collection
  • Collaborate with other SEE team members to ensure smooth operations and effective support for early childhood education programs.
  • Provides data entry and carries out administrative duties such as filing, typing, copying, binding, scanning, etc for the SEE Department.
  • Attending trainings as required by the Director of Early Education and Care
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Director of Early Education and Care to support the goals of the SEE department.

Terms of Employment:

  • Part Time
  • District Wide
  • This is a grant-funded, temporary position (eligible for benefits). Funded by the Commonwealth Preschool Partnership Initiative grant.
  • 17.5 hours per week for 40 weeks (September - July)
