POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position develops and revises new and existing Intelligent Transportation System(s) (ITS). Performs highly responsible technical work including the analysis, design and implementation of automated traffic management systems. May be responsible for administering information resources and telecommunication hardware/software located within an Intelligent Transportation Operations Center. Work requires contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Essential Duties:

  • May serve as project leader.
  • Assists with planning and scheduling the installation and testing of hardware/software and troubleshooting computer/telecommunication related problems.
  • Consults users as the primary source of contact for ITS development and support.
  • Coordinates project schedule for the installation, implementation and upgrade of systems.
  • Coordinates the development, implementation and maintenance of information systems, local area networks (LAN) and information security administration.
  • Develops ITS which includes writing design documentation and methods, preparing work diagrams and data flow charts, evaluating systems hardware and hardware, analyzing user requirements, testing software and performing field tests.
  • Prepares and monitors budget.
  • Provides technical direction in the analysis and design of ITS
  • Researches, evaluates and recommends vendor supplied software and hardware.
  • Reviews and monitors contracts related to ITS.
  • Serves on committees regarding ITS.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer science, electrical engineering, telecommunications. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis OR related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Experience: 4 YEARS of experience in system analysis, design, computer programming. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
