We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team at Intelligent Transport Solutions (ITS). Based in Dunedin, the successful candidate will support the ITS Team Leaders in Dunedin, Te Anau and our wider ITS business around New Zealand and contribute to the technology involved with all aspects of Intelligent Transport Solutions including our analogue and digital radio network, traffic signal and the Milford Road to deliver tailored software, hardware and networking solutions. You will also assist other internal and external clients as directed.
In this role, you will focus on developing and implementing systems to streamline data collection, delivery, and visualisation. Your work will directly contribute to innovative solutions for the National Radio Communications system, including the maintenance and management of the telecommunications network to ensure minimal disruption or failure.
You will work closely with the Project Manager and clients to understand their needs, providing iterative deliveries to gather ongoing feedback and continuously improve the solutions we offer.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Electronics/Physics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in systems/network administration or a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP protocols, Routing, VLANs, Wireless, VPNs, and CCNA certification or equivalent
  • Experience with virtualisation technologies
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skillsProficient in Windows/Linux environments, backup, and disaster recover.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain remote monitoring software and hardware systems
  • Design, implement, and support network infrastructure in copper, fibre, Wi-Fi, and radio environments
  • Ensure systems are designed and tested to meet industry best practices
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, designers, and engineers to build new features and infrastructure
  • Work closely with our ITS Managers, and Project Managers to deliver high-quality solutionsEngage with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers throughout the design, review, and commissioning phases of projects
