Description JOB SUMMARY The Liberty County Sheriff's Office is accepting internal and external applications for the position of Jail Lieutenant. This position supervises the processing of inmates at the Liberty County Jail. MAJOR DUTIES Processes inmates entering and leaving the facility. Maintains accurate logs of inmate personal property and of jail property assigned to inmates. Maintains accurate logs of all booking activities and security equipment. Maintains and monitor security points. Prepares incident reports. Obtains and prints inmate fingerprints and submits to national database. Receive bail and bond monies; enters monies to inmate accounts. Monitors inmate safety and security. Administers first-aid as needed. Searches inmates to locate contraband. Maintains accurate records of all funds and medications entering the jail. Maintains accurate count of inmates. Supervises the feeding of inmates. Operates security doors. Supervises the administration of medication to inmates. Performs related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Knowledge of agency policies and procedures. Knowledge of basic financial recordkeeping principles. Knowledge of records management principles. Knowledge of inmate booking principles and practices. Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in the use of fingerprinting equipment. Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions. Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports. Skill in oral and written communication. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed in a jail facility. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, and contagious or infectious diseases. The work requires the use of specialized law enforcement equipment and protective devices. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY This position has direct supervision over assigned personnel within an area, department, or unit. Direct supervision typically involves the ability to manage schedules, performance, and the interpersonal issues of other employees. It may involve the ability to recommend changes to work priorities or strategies within an area, department, or unit. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Must possess Jailer or Correctional Officer Certification through Georgia P.O.S.T.
