Description

A well-established Japanese trading company located in Midtown Manhattan is seeking a Bilingual IT Application Engineer (English/Japanese) to support its internal ERP and business application systems. This role offers the opportunity to work in a bilingual, multicultural environment while supporting both global and local IT operations. The ideal candidate will be tech-savvy, detail-oriented, and fluent in both English and Japanese.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience in IT support, systems analysis, or application development
  • Fluency in Japanese and English (spoken and written) is required
  • Strong experience with MS SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, and reporting/ETL tools (training available if needed)
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly SAP (support/administration role; no ERP development required)
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Willingness to travel as needed (domestic/international)
  • Customer service-oriented with a proactive mindset

PREFERRED SKILLS (NOT REQUIRED):

  • Experience with homegrown/internal systems
  • Developer experience or interest in transitioning from development to systems support

    - Knowledge of RPA, EDI, or other automation tools

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for internal systems and ERP (SAP), addressing user inquiries and coordinating with vendors
  • Serve as a liaison between users and Japanese vendors for troubleshooting and system enhancements
  • Maintain and improve homegrown systems using MS SQL Server (including reports and ETL configurations)
  • Develop and maintain operational reports using SSRS, Excel, or other tools
  • Perform system testing, diagnostics, and debugging; report findings to development teams
  • Participate in system upgrades, new technology integration, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and application version histories
  • Monitor industry trends and provide suggestions for system and process innovation
  • Participate in ERP enhancement projects and future implementation at affiliate companies
  • Understand business processes and user needs to improve application usability and efficiency
  • Other duties as assigned
