Position Overview We're seeking an experienced Job Captain to serve as a key technical contributor on architectural and interior design projects of varying sizes and complexity. Working in coordination with Project Architects, Project Managers, and Senior Job Captains, you'll be responsible for technical development and documentation across all project phases—from Schematic Design through Construction Administration—in alignment with AIA standards and best practices. This role combines technical execution with collaborative problem-solving to deliver high-quality construction documents and support successful project outcomes. What You'll Do Design Development & Project Execution Support architectural and interior design scope through all project phases (SD, DD, CD, CA) in accordance with AIA standards Produce BIM models and construction documents in Revit software to develop and document design concepts with technical precision Create preliminary sketches and translate concepts into design software (Revit, Photoshop, Lumion) for both architectural and interior design applications Develop architectural details, interior details, and space planning consistent with project goals and design intent Organize design and construction documentation for presentations, permit submissions, and construction Produce functional and code-compliant architectural and interior environments Construction Administration Participate in site visits for construction observation under the guidance of project leadership Assist in reviewing and responding to Requests for Information (RFIs) and submittals in accordance with AIA procedures Prepare clarification sketches, supplemental drawings, and support Architect's Supplemental Instructions (ASIs) as needed Review and redline project drawings and shop drawings for technical quality and design accuracy Support monitoring of construction progress to ensure conformance with construction documents and design intent Technical Documentation & Coordination Coordinate construction document sets including architectural plans, interior design plans, details, schedules, and specifications Support cross-disciplinary coordination with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and civil engineering consultants Conduct QA/QC reviews of construction documents to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and completeness Research and specify appropriate materials, finishes, furniture, fixtures, and equipment for both architectural and interior applications Produce construction documentation packages meeting AIA document standards and local jurisdiction requirements Ensure compliance with building codes (IBC, IRC), accessibility requirements (ADA/ABA), life safety codes, and zoning regulations Participate in BIM coordination processes and assist in resolving discipline conflicts in the model Client & Stakeholder Support Participate in meetings with clients, users, and stakeholders to support design requirements Support project communication related to architectural and interior scope Assist in managing budgeted hours, schedules, and cost control for project components Contribute to client satisfaction through quality design delivery and professional communication Team Collaboration & Professional Development Mentor junior interior design staff and interns; provide guidance in professional development Collaborate effectively with project team members across disciplines Support junior staff as appropriate through peer collaboration and knowledge sharing Participate in team meetings and contribute to project coordination Engage in continuous learning and professional development Additional Responsibilities Support furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) selection, specification, and coordination Maintain knowledge of current design trends, building technologies, materials, and industry best practices Ensure compliance with accessibility guidelines (ADA/ABA) and building codes across project documentation Participate in continuing education, AIA learning units, and professional development activities Support office standards development and quality control processes Requirements What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Interior Design (FIDER accredited preferred) Typically 4-8 years of architecture/interior design experience For Architecture track: Active architectural registration (RA) OR demonstrated progress toward licensure For Interior Design track: NCIDQ Certification required OR active pursuit with completion anticipated within 2 years Proficiency in Revit with demonstrated ability to produce construction documents and coordinate BIM models Working knowledge of design and visualization tools including Photoshop, Lumion, or equivalent Understanding of AIA project phases, construction documentation standards, and project delivery processes Knowledge of building codes (IBC, IRC), accessibility requirements (ADA/ABA), life safety codes, and regulations applicable to architecture and interior design Expertise in detailing construction, materials, building systems, and technical problem-solving Experience with consultant coordination and cross-disciplinary collaboration Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-disciplinary teams Experience with project management software (Deltek Vision or equivalent preferred) Professional attitude and commitment to quality Desired Qualifications 6+ years of experience in the architecture/design industry Active architectural registration (RA) or NCIDQ Certification AIA membership or participation in professional organizations LEED Green Associate, EDAC, AAHID, WELL AP, or similar sustainability/specialty credential Exposure to multiple project delivery methods (Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, CM at Risk) Familiarity with specifications software (e.g., e-SPECS, SpecLink) Self-starter with strong initiative and accountability Receptive to constructive feedback with commitment to continuous improvement Actively seeking opportunities for learning and professional development Willingness to support and collaborate with team members Strong design sensibility and developing technical acumen Interest in contributing to office knowledge sharing and standards development Why Join CDH Partners?
