JOB PURPOSE:

The Job Coach will provide tailored support to young people with learning difficulties, disabilities, or additional needs undertaking supported internships. The role involves working closely with students, employers, and educational providers to facilitate meaningful workplace experiences, enhance employability skills, and enable interns to transition into paid employment successfully. The Job Coach will play a critical role in ensuring that interns gain the confidence, skills, and real-world experience required to thrive in professional settings.
The Job Coach will be responsible for identifying individual strengths and areas for development, providing personalised guidance, and adapting support strategies to meet the needs of each intern. By fostering strong relationships with employers, the Job Coach will advocate for workplace accommodations and assist in developing sustainable employment opportunities. The role will also require the delivery of employability skills training, career development sessions, and ongoing mentoring to promote long-term career progression.
Additionally, the Job Coach will act as a key liaison between interns, employers, and educational institutions, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned in their objectives. Through structured assessments, goal setting, and intervention strategies, the Job Coach will help interns overcome barriers to employment and develop greater independence in their careers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Student Support: Provide one-to-one and group support to interns, helping them develop essential workplace skills, confidence, and independence.
  • Workplace Coaching: Support interns in their placements, offering hands-on job coaching, task analysis, and adjustments to meet individual needs.
  • Employer Engagement: Work collaboratively with employers to identify suitable placements, support reasonable adjustments, and ensure a positive experience for both interns and businesses.
  • Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess and document students’ progress, identifying challenges and working with all stakeholders to implement solutions.
  • Collaboration: Liaise with teachers, careers advisors, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to student development.
  • Training and Development: Deliver employability training, workplace preparation sessions, and job search support to interns.
  • Advocacy: Promote the benefits of supported internships and inclusive employment practices to employers and the wider community.
