Responsibilities

POSITION DESCRIPTION – WHAT THE ROLE ENTAILS:

Developing and implementing effective coaching strategies to help participants overcome employment-related challenges to secure employment. Work with the Institute for Workforce Education and Outreach Worker to provide a quality workforce training program for participants.

AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY - WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Identifying clients’ strengths and advising them on how to use those strengths to secure employment or excel in their chosen career path.
  • Assisting in selecting participants for Pre-apprenticeship Program
  • Providing information on suitable career paths based on clients’ skills, qualifications, interests, and experience.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely entry of data in our internal systems and Illinois Work Net, along with preparation of comprehensive data reports.
  • Collect data on participants and outcomes for quarterly reporting.
  • Track participant involvement in training hours to determine stipend due.
  • Creates outreach strategies to recruit participants for the Chicago, Cicero, and Kankakee areas.
  • Establish relationships with trade unions in Chicago, Cicero/Berwyn, and Kankakee areas for participant placement in apprenticeship opportunities after program completion.
  • Conducting tests to assess clients’ skills and abilities and providing feedback on test results.
  • Reviewing participants’ resumes and suggesting improvements as needed.
  • Maintaining accurate records of Participants’ progress.
  • Collaborating with employers and unions to identify possible job opportunities for participants
  • Enroll participants in programs to learn how to use program-related tools, instruments, and equipment correctly.
  • All other duties as assigned

  • Attention to Detail – Accurately collects and tracks participant data, training hours, and stipend information while maintaining precise records for reporting.
  • Proactively develops outreach strategies, builds relationships with unions and employers, and identifies opportunities to enhance participant success.
  • Clearly conveys career information, feedback, and guidance to participants, employers, and team members in both written and verbal forms.
  • Maintains confidentiality, reliability, and integrity when working with sensitive participant information.
  • Proficiency in collecting, tracking, and reporting participant outcomes for quarterly and funder reporting requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with trade unions and employers to secure apprenticeship and job opportunities.
  • Commitment to advancing workforce development, equity, and opportunities for participants in pre-apprenticeship pathways.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS – WHAT IS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE ROLE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, psychology, or related field is preferred. Or 4 years of relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with unions or in construction trades is a plus.
  • Proven experience working as a coach.
  • Sound knowledge of different jobs and career paths.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent research, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
