JOINERY BUYER

The Joinery Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing bespoke projects, components, and services required to produce high-end joinery, retail displays, display props and bespoke furniture. The role ensures cost-effective procurement, building strong relationships with key suppliers while maintaining the highest quality and delivery standards.

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven experience as a Buyer in the joinery, retail displays, exhibitions, furniture, or construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Panel-based products, timber, veneers, laminates, metalwork, glass, acrylic and other joinery-related materials.
  • Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills with the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers to gain trust.
  • Strong understanding of cost control, budgeting, and supply chain management.
  • High experience in interpreting technical drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving mindset.
  • Experience working with high-end luxury brands and bespoke joinery projects.
  • Knowledge of sustainable sourcing practices and FSC/PEFC certifications.
  • Knowledge of auditing processes ISO & Sedex.
  • Previous manual joinery/bench hand joinery workshop experience will be a huge plus!
  • Computer literate (intermediate) Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and can use an Apple MacBook.

Responsibilities
  • Sourcing & Procurement - Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with suppliers for bespoke joinery projects, metalwork fabrication, and bespoke props. Extensive network of wood-based products, hardware, and finish suppliers.
  • Negotiation - Secure competitive pricing and payment terms with suppliers to ensure cost efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Supply Chain Management - Ensure a reliable and efficient supply of products that is in line with production schedule and deadlines.
  • Project Management - Manage projects with flexibility to work additional hours to ensure projects are completed on time, which may include weekends when required.
  • Supplier Management - Monitor supplier performance, quality standards and lead times, fostering strong supplier relationships.
  • Quality Assurance - Work closely with the production team to ensure all specifications and materials meet technical specifications and client expectations.
  • Quality Control & Supplier Visits: Conduct regular supplier visits to assess quality standards, ensure compliance with technical specifications set out on technical drawings, and strengthen supplier relationships. Report to Production managers and senior management on all subcontract work and progress.
  • Compliance & Sustainability - Ensure materials comply with industry regulations, sustainability standards and specific client requirements.
  • Cost Analysis & Reporting - Monitor costs and report on cost-saving initiatives to the Procurement Manager.
  • Collaboration - Work closely with the head of production, production managers, technical department, and estimators to ensure timings, specifications and quality align with project/client expectations.
  • Timelines & Scheduling: Coordinate with external suppliers and internal teams to meet project timelines, proactively addressing potential delays or highlighting any issues.
