Within Canada, Burckhardt Compression has a strong Services division in which we aim to provide one-stop reciprocating service for our customers. We are able to provide field service, repair and engineering/revamp services and spare parts for any brand of reciprocating compressor.
Burckhardt Compression (Canada) Inc. (BCCA) has an opening for a Manual Journeyman or Apprentice Machinist, that will be directly reporting to the Valve & Packing Team Lead, this position is based in Edmonton, AB.

REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must be detail-oriented with proven ability to multi-task within a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess a strong mechanical aptitude and must have a safety and quality mindset.
  • Must be self-directed with little supervision and able to positively contribute to a team environment
  • Proven ability to read and interpret drawings and part specifications.
  • Strong communication (verbal & written) skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Machinist trade certification/ticket or apprentice enrollment.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the setup and operation of manual lathes and milling machines.
  • Familiarity with the Natural Gas industry and reciprocating compressors would be an asset.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and organize assigned tasks starting with interpreting drawings for specifications, set up and operating requirements.
  • Operate various machining equipment including manual lathes, milling machine, grinders and horizontal boring mill.
  • Clean, grind, polish and machine compressor components.
  • Manufacture piston rings, packing case cups, bushings and smaller parts.
  • Perform the machining of parts on conventional equipment (band saw, lathe, milling machine, grinder, drill press, etc.) within tight tolerances.
  • Assembly and disassembly of components as required.
  • Use measuring instruments (micrometers, dial gauges, etc.).
  • Participate in near miss & incident reporting and adhere to all Quality and EOHS program requirements.
