JOB SUMMARY

As a Solar Journeyman Electrician, you will play a critical role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of solar energy systems. This position involves working independently or as a leader within a team to ensure that solar installations are completed to high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. You will utilize your advanced electrical skills to troubleshoot, solve complex problems, and oversee the work of apprentices or other electricians when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Advanced Electrical Knowledge: Thorough understanding of electrical systems, wiring, and circuit principles, with specific expertise in solar energy systems.
Technical Proficiency: Proven experience with photovoltaic technology, solar inverters, battery systems, and other related components.
Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: Ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex issues with solar systems.
Physical Stamina: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and handle physical tasks, including climbing and working at heights.
Leadership and Supervisory Skills: Experience supervising or training apprentices or junior electricians.
Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients, team members, and supervisors, both verbally and in writing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program.
  • Journeyman Electrician certification is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical work, with specific experience in solar installations preferred.
  • Certifications from organizations such as the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) are a plus.

Responsibilities
  1. Solar Panel Installation and Supervision:
    a. Mount and install solar panels on rooftops or other structures in compliance with engineering specifications and safety protocols.
    b. Oversee and guide apprentices or junior electricians in installation procedures, ensuring all tasks meet quality and safety standards.
  2. Advanced Electrical Wiring and Connections:
    a. Perform and supervise the electrical wiring of solar panels, inverters, transformers, and battery systems, including proper grounding and insulation.
    b. Ensure accurate and safe connections across all electrical components, adhering to regulatory codes and standards.
  3. System Testing and Troubleshooting:
    a. Conduct detailed performance tests and inspections to ensure the efficiency and reliability of solar energy systems.
    b. Diagnose and resolve complex issues with solar systems, including performing advanced repairs and adjustments as needed.
  4. Maintenance and Repairs:
    a. Carry out routine maintenance, such as cleaning, inspection, and replacement of system components, and train others in these procedures.
    b. Perform or supervise complex repairs and upgrades to improve system performance and longevity.
  5. Safety and Compliance Leadership:
    a. Lead by example in following safety protocols and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe working environment.
    b. Conduct or assist with safety training for apprentices and other team members.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:
    a. Maintain comprehensive records of installations, inspections, maintenance, and repairs, documenting any modifications or upgrades.
    b. Report project progress, issues, and updates to supervisors and project managers.
  7. Customer Service and Support:
    a. Interact professionally with clients, explaining solar system operations, maintenance requirements, and addressing any questions or concerns.
    b. Provide guidance on energy-saving tips and solar usage to optimize client satisfaction.
  8. Professional Development:
    a. Stay informed on industry developments, technology advancements, and best practices in solar energy and electrical systems.
