EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must be a Journeyman Gas Fitter. Possessing a Gasfitter A ticket would be a definite asset
  • 5 years experience with boiler operations, repair, and inspection procedures is required
  • Steam Fitting experience and knowledge of pneumatic, electrical and digital control systems are assets.
  • Journeyman plumbing ticket or plumbing experience would be an asset
  • Journeyman Refrigeration ticket or refrigeration experience would be a definite asset.
    Note: Must possess a current Alberta Class 5 Operators License and provide a driver’s abstract

DEMONSTRATED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as the ability to keep accurate records.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computers and computerized equipment is essential.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of troubleshooting boiler and control circuits.
  • Must be self-motivated; able to work independently without supervision,
  • Ability to work in a multi-trade team environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Skilled at maintaining and enhancing levels of service delivery
  • Customer focus is required.
  • Willingness to upgrade and remain current with practices and trends.
  • Willingness to attend brand-specific training on mechanical equipment as required.
  • Must be physically able to complete all demands and responsibilities of the position.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE

  • The purpose of this job is to complete mandatory inspections on boilers as required by ABSA, and complete repairs and maintenance on boilers (and associated piping and fittings) on hot water and steam heating systems in all CBE schools.

ACCOUNTABILITY

This job is accountable for:

  • Maintaining a productive balance between quality and quantity of work in an efficient and timely manner while demonstrating adaptability to changes in work priorities;
  • Effectively prioritizing work and solving associated problems in a collaborative manner;
  • Communicating effectively;
  • Demonstrating teamwork to contribute towards and maintain positive work relationships; and
  • Performing all duties in accordance with CBE and legislated safety practices and procedures at all times to ensure incumbent’s own safety and the safety of team members, staff, and students.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies work priorities and schedules work in consultation with the Mandatory Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Schedules and prepares boilers for tri-annual boiler inspections with ABSA, and determines necessary repairs
  • Expedites procurement of boiler repair related parts and materials.
  • Analyzes temperature and pressure levels and other instrument readings of boiler and heating equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation of mechanical andsafety equipment.
  • Makes recommendations to their supervisor for future Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal program upgrades.
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance functions on heating systems and all associated piping, equipment and controls in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Expeditiously completes all work requests, emergencies and day-to-day work as assigned.
  • Assists in the design and inspection of new schools and modernizations as required.
  • Instructs and assists Facility Operators in building operations with respect to boiler related matters and repairs.
  • When required, completes combustion analysis on boilers to maintain and/or increase efficiencies.
  • Works collaboratively with all other trades in the repair and service of boilers and heating systems.
  • Responds to off-hour calls for required maintenance work.
  • May be required to provide own, suitable vehicle for work
  • Required to provide hand tools in accordance with current collective agreement.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.
