Role Overview The Journeyman Ironworker plays a critical role in the successful erection of structural steel and miscellaneous metals on commercial construction projects throughout Arizona. This position is responsible for safely and accurately raising, positioning, aligning, and connecting structural steel members while maintaining compliance with OSHA and AISC standards. The ideal candidate is a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in quality workmanship, can work independently with minimal supervision, and is capable of mentoring apprentices while leading small crews. Key Responsibilities Erect structural steel and miscellaneous metal assemblies in accordance with project plans, specifications, OSHA regulations, and AISC standards. Raise, position, align, connect, and secure beams, columns, stairs, guardrails, grab rails, and other structural components. Read and interpret erection drawings, shop drawings, and construction documents. Perform structural steel bolt-up, field fabrication, layout, and welding activities. Utilize gridlines, benchmarks, and layout tools to ensure accurate installation and alignment. Install and maintain rigging systems while safely signaling crane operators during steel erection activities. Operate forklifts, aerial work platforms, and powered hand tools in accordance with training and certifications. Lead small crews and provide mentorship and guidance to apprentice ironworkers. Maintain welding certifications and ensure all work meets company quality standards. Enforce safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies at all times. Successfully complete assigned tasks with minimal direction while maintaining productivity and workmanship standards. Support positive relationships with customers, contractors, and fellow team members. Qualifications Required Journeyman-level ironworking experience in commercial construction. Experience with rigging, signaling, and structural steel erection. Ability to weld 3G and 4G SMAW. Ability to read and interpret erection drawings and shop drawings. Experience installing stairs, guardrails, and grab rails. Experience with structural steel layout, plumbing, sequencing, and connection methods. Ability to fabricate structural steel components in the field. Comfortable working at heights. Ability to lead small crews and mentor apprentices. Working knowledge of fall protection systems and construction safety requirements. Professional working proficiency in English. Preferred OSHA 10 Certification. Current welding certifications. Certifications for forklifts and aerial work platforms. Skills & Abilities Strong understanding of commercial steel construction practices. Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills in the field. Strong leadership and communication skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing jobsite conditions. Commitment to quality workmanship and continuous improvement. Dependable, team-oriented, and self-motivated. Ability to maintain a high standard of safety, professionalism, and accountability. All work is local to Arizona — no travel required. Schedule Start times between 5am - 7am depending on the job site.
