Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team and help take Southland Trailers to the next level. In this role, you’ll be part of a dynamic team that works together to drive innovation, quality, and success. If you’re a self-starter who loves challenges, we want to hear from you!

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Take part in early morning team huddles and stretches to start the day off strong.
  • Mentor and train apprentices, including signing off hours in their blue book.
  • Operate tools and equipment safely, following all safety guidelines.
  • Confirm materials and equipment are prepared and ready for each project.
  • Spot potential issues and promptly communicate them to the Lead Mechanic.
  • Maintain accurate logs of preventative maintenance hours and repair work.
  • Coordinate with truck drivers to schedule needed repairs or preventative maintenance.
  • Partner with equipment operators to monitor units and plan maintenance or PM schedules.
  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on our fleet of highway tractors and trailers.
  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on forklifts, tractors, scissor lifts, and electric pallet jacks.
  • Frequently lift items in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Work in various positions for extended periods, including bending, squatting, kneeling, and standing.
  • Suggest quality or productivity improvements to support our continuous improvement culture.
  • Support the Head or Assistant Coach with other duties as needed.
  • Follow standard operating procedures to maintain consistency and quality.
  • Complete daily 5S requirements to keep your work area organized and safe.
  • Finish all assigned training on time to keep skills current.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned to support the success of the team.
