As a Journeyperson Millwright, you will be responsible for mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, rigging, installation and alignment on a wide variety of City of Calgary water treatment plants and water transmission equipment. Primary duties include:

  • Repair and maintain industrial plant equipment, such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, and heat exchangers.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and overhauls on mechanical systems and rotating equipment.
  • Install, align, and commission new mechanical equipment systems.
  • Use basic machining tools, such as lathes, milling machines, and drill presses, to fabricate or modify parts as required.
  • Write reports including work orders, progress reports, and equipment recommendations.
  • Read blueprints and interpret manufacturer’s drawings, schematics, and overhaul instructions.
  • Lead and direct staff as necessary and assist in training apprentices and/or trainees.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A valid Journeyperson Millwright certificate (equivalent Interprovincial Red Seal) as recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, or a Graduated Driver’s License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no current charges or suspension pending is required.
  • A valid 5th Class Power Engineering certificate will be considered an asset.
  • A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g., GED or CAEC [Canadian Adult Education Certificate]) will be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience working in a plant (for example: refinery, gas, pulp and paper), or working in a large water treatment plant will be considered a strong asset.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work independently.
    Working Conditions: You will be exposed to all weather conditions including heat, cold, humid/ wet, dust, noise, chemicals, gases and odours, walking, and the potential of confined space entry.
    Note: You will be required to supply your own tools and you must be eligible to obtain Confined Space Entry Certification (training will be provided).

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
    Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
