POSITION SUMMARY To accommodate our growing community and customer centric approach, Milton Hydro is looking to grow our Powerline Technician Team’s complement. Reporting to the Supervisor of Operations, this position is responsible the construction, maintenance, operation and troubleshooting of the electric distribution system (overhead and underground) on all voltages. The successful candidate will perform emergency call-out and on call duties, and work under emergency conditions, with the willingness and ability to respond and be on the work site within 45 minutes of receiving the call.  Candidates will be required to comply and be familiar with Company work practices and standards, operating rules, and regulations, as well as all pertinent OHSA and regulations. This is a full-time unionized position. KEY DUTIES * Construction, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the electrical distribution system, including overhead and underground of various voltages (up to and including 27.6 kV) * Perform live line work on overhead and underground electrical distribution lines of up to 27.6 kV * Erect poles, and associated structures for power lines * Build, repair and operate underground cables/equipment  * Required work within Substations * Install conductors and associated apparatus * Perform assigned maintenance work, trouble-shoot and restore electric power during emergencies. * Understand and operate motorized vehicles and equipment; boom trucks * Install single-phase meter equipment * Perform line clearing duties as required * Solve routine problems * Perform on-call duties * Compliance and sign off to the construction verification program. ESA 22:04 * CVOR checks/logs; track jobs hours for CVOR * Track personal job hours for timesheet (projects, etc.) * Work within compliance of the utility work protection code * Outage reports * Mentor, train and provide input on the evaluation of Apprentices * Ensures the safe and efficient completion of tasks * Identify opportunities to improve business processes and advise supervisor of risks within business processes * Active participation in training, daily job planning, tailboard discussions, safety meeting and other safety initiatives SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED * The MEARIE Group Journeyperson Power Line Technician Certificate or recognized equivalent (4th year Apprentices may be taken into consideration) * The Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities Power Line Technician Certificate (or equivalent) * Full certification in the Ontario Utility Work Protection Code (or willing and able to acquire within six months and maintain) * Working knowledge of the Electrical Utility Safety Rules and industry safe work practices * Proficient in the use of all tools and equipment associated with the trade * Valid Class "D" driver's license with "Z" endorsement * Able to work from work orders, specifications, standards and instructions and to interpret prints, sketches and diagrams * Strong communicator, excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills * A level of physical fitness essential to do the work including the ability to climb and work confidently at heights; and the willingness and ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions APPLY TODAY!
