Jr. Field/Resident Engineer (NYC Parks Projects | Vehicle Required)
Are you ready to take your engineering skills into the field and make a visible impact across NYC?
We’re hiring aJunior Field/Resident Engineerto support two NYC Parks Department projects focused on sidewalk reconstruction and urban tree health. This is a hands-on, field-based role ideal for someone who thrives outdoors, enjoys working independently, and is ready to grow within a mission-driven organization.
Important Requirement: A personal vehicle is required for daily site visits across the five boroughs.

✅ QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree in forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, civil engineering, or construction management with 2 years of relevant experience
  • OR Bachelor’s degree with 1 year of experience, OR Master’s degree with 6 months of experience, OR 3+ years of field experience
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and construction oversight
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle for commuting between sites

BONUS SKILLS

  • Knowledge of plant species and urban landscaping
  • Experience working with landscapers or in horticulture
  • Familiarity with NYC Parks Department standards and workflows
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

You’ll be responsible for visiting multiple project sites each day, overseeing contractors, and ensuring work aligns with city standards and environmental goals. From saw cutting and excavation to tree planting and concrete restoration, you’ll be the eyes and ears on the ground—tracking progress, ensuring safety, and keeping communication flowing between contractors and clients.

️ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Visit multiple active sites daily across NYC (vehicle required)
  • Oversee contractors performing sidewalk and tree-related work
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and project managers
  • Review contract line items and ensure compliance with scope and standards
  • Monitor safety protocols, including PPE usage
  • Record and track measurements for pay items (e.g., excavation, planting)
  • Submit daily field reports and maintain accurate documentation
  • Support punch list completion and project closeout
