Note: This opportunity is open to transitioning military members only. Non-service members will not be considered for this position. JT4's SkillBridge Operations Pilot Internship is a unique 16-week opportunity for transitioning service members to obtain thorough OTJ (on the job) training from JT4's top technical SME's. During the internship, the service member will be provided a training plan outlining weekly tasks and goals to be accomplished. The goal of the internship is to prepare the transitioning service member for a full-time Operations role at JT4. Some examples of required duties and responsibilities are outlined below. NOTE: While the program is designed to prepare the service member for a full-time, civilian position, JT4 has no obligation to hire the intern on full-time or to continue the internship if it is determined that the intern does not meet expectations. About JT4 JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges. FULL-TIME POSITION: JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An Operations Pilot performs a variety of engineering assignments in planning and overseeing research, design, development, manufacturing, testing, installation, integration, sustainment, operation, and maintenance of diverse software, electronic, and/or mechanical equipment and systems. Employee will be responsible for the following functions/duties: * Perform as a lead of a development, sustainment, or operations and maintenance team on more complex engineering assignments * Independently perform a range of design, development, analysis, or review tasks under generally established project deadlines * Complete design specifications, analyses, or design reviews for complex projects * Generate complete design specifications for more complex projects * Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements * Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures * Prepare, deliver, and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies * Support development of technical proposals and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work * Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications * Direct interface with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities * Acts as liaison for design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications * Conduct site visits and experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendation * Perform other job-related duties, as required RANGE POSITION DESCRIPTION Key Responsibilities: * Provide simulation support for the Joint Simulation Environment project at Nellis AFB, building simulations to support USAF operational test and training missions. * Perform control room functions, including role-playing for constructive air assets, to support test and training exercises. * Assist in developing test planning, test conduct, test processes, test reports, operational procedures, data deliverables, and safety packages. Simulation Support: * Configure the battle space, perform post-test reconfigurations, and prepare the virtual environment with customer-defined threat laydowns. * Develop and implement threat configurations, System Under Test (SUT) configurations, and weapons configurations. * Operate and act as a flyer/operator within the simulation environment to support verification and validation. Training and Mentorship: * Instruct, mentor, and demonstrate to fellow flyers and engineers the threat system, operations, sensor systems, communication and navigation systems, and Pilot Vehicle Interface (PVI). Modeling and Simulation: * Provide modeling and simulation support for the development, upgrade, operations, and integration of constructive, real-time, and virtual piloted simulators. * Support the flying quality, airframe, propulsion, avionics, sensors, weapon, and electronic warfare mission areas. Engineering Support: * Provide operations engineering support for test planning working groups, design reviews, and other related testing activities. REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE A Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited academic institution and four years of related engineering experience, or an accredited Master of Science in Engineering and a minimum of two years of related engineering experience, or an accredited doctorate degree in engineering are required for this position. In addition, an Operations Pilot must possess the following qualifications: * Mastery of concepts, principles, and practices of engineering that enable the employee to serve as a technical authority on projects relating to the specific programs * Knowledge and skill sufficient to apply the latest developments in engineering to solve problems in the specialty area * Working knowledge of computer systems and computer-based engineering tools * Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in operational hardware and software * Excellent communication and analytical skills * Planning/organizational skills and the ability to work under deadlines The incumbent must possess a valid, state issued driver's license. The Operations/Test Analyst must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance up to top secret with special access. Must be a U.S. citizen. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards. There is occasional lifting up to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness. The incumbent must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines.
