POSITION SUMMARY

The Junior Accountant plays a vital role in supporting the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the organization. This position is responsible for performing full-cycle accounting duties with a strong emphasis on detailed billing and compliance with Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) contracts. The Junior Accountant will manage day-to-day financial tasks in QuickBooks Online and Excel, support audit and compliance efforts, and assist the Director of Finance with a variety of projects. The role requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a hybrid, technology-driven environment.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3–5 years of experience in full-cycle accounting, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
  • Advanced experience with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel (including formulas, pivot tables, etc.).
  • Proficiency with Acrobat Pro, Dropbox, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Zoom.
  • Experience with virtual work environments; must have reliable high-speed internet access during all working hours.
  • Must be available and willing to work at the beginning of each month to meet strict billing deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in managing financial transactions.
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining communication in a hybrid work setting.
  • Understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Knowledge of DFCS billing and RBWO contract requirements preferred.
  • Strong ethical standards and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record and reliable transportation.
  • Upon hire, must provide proof of Auto Liability Insurance in your name with coverage of 100/300/50 split limit or $300,000 combined single limit. Policy documentation must include: your name as insured, covered vehicles(s),effective date no later than date of hire, expiration date, and required coverage levels.

Responsibilities
  • Create accurate and timely invoices for DFCS and manage all aspects of accounts receivable and collections.
  • Manage vendor relationships, process accounts payable, and ensure timely payment of bills and vendor invoices.
  • Collect and review W-9 forms; assist with preparation and submission of 1099s.
  • Accurately record deposits and allocate funds to proper accounts and classes.
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations and analyze discrepancies.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Assist with financial audits by gathering documentation and maintaining accurate records.
  • Maintain financial data integrity using QuickBooks Online, Excel, and Dropbox.
  • Ensure compliance with DFCS Room, Board, and Watchful Oversight (RBWO) contracts.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information and support data security practices.
  • Complete additional finance-related duties and projects as assigned.
