Description

Northern Strands is currently recruiting to fulfill the role of a Junior Accountant. The Junior Accountant provides support to the organization by performing a variety of accounting, and financial-related duties. The Junior Accountant displays a positive and professional attitude in all communications with internal personnel, vendors, customers, and other business partners. The Junior Accountant performs administrative duties requiring initiative, independence, and confidentiality in areas of accounting and plays a key role in the execution of daily tasks necessary for the efficient operation of the organization.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS

  • An Accounting or Business degree or certificate would be considered an asset; willing to consider work experience equivalent, or combination of education and experience
  • Minimum two years of accounting experience preferred
  • Previous work experience in a similar administrative support role would be an asset
  • Must have an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and adept at applying those principles
  • Must display strong computer skills (i.e., typing, Sage 300, Adobe)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Must possess strong organization skills and attention to detail with high level of accuracy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to handle competing priorities simultaneously; work well under pressure with time-sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision using critical thinking and problem-solve as required
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Posses a professional, responsive, and positive work attitude
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise judgment and discretion when handling sensitive data, records, and communications

Responsibilities
  • Day-to-day transactions
  • Code and reconcile transactions such as accounts payable and receivable, cheques, invoices, and bank statements
  • Run day-ends in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
  • Perform ERP system maintenance
  • Ensure vendor and customer accounts are kept up to date and accurate
  • Process credit applications from customers and provide banking information to vendors, as requested
  • Calculate, prepare, and issue documents related to accounts such as bills, invoices, inventory reports, and account statements
  • Verify Subledger reports reconcile with the General Ledger (GL)
  • Assist with intercompany transactions between multiple companies
  • Assist with and understand cash flow management, including accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Fill out credit applications for new vendors
  • Ensure rent and utility bills are paid on time every month
  • Manage company credit cards
  • Monitor and reconcile various GL accounts regularly
  • Respond to customer inquiries, maintain good customer relations, and solve problems as they arise
  • Records and Filing
  • Maintain records and filing systems in compliance with legislated regulations and company policies
  • Perform asset tracking
  • Other related duties
  • Perform clerical duties, such as word processing, and photocopying
  • Complete month-end and year-end processes and transactions
  • Provide assistance to the Finance group as required
  • Assist with month-end financial packages to divisional managers
  • Assist with/prepare financial policies
