Description JOB OVERVIEW The Accountant will provide accounting support for high level projects and process improvement. They will be cross trained in all Accounting functions and will have knowledge of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and Revenue and Sales Operations Compensation. In this role, the individual is responsible for assisting with process improvement projects, documentation of processes and procedures, performing research and analysis, account reconciliations, assisting with audit preparations, insurance policies and performing other duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Prepare and input journal entries (monthly, adjusting, and recurring). Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, employer’s benefit costs, accruals, and prepaid expenses. Process monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed assets depreciation, and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries. Inform timely and update insurance company of all asset changes. Assist with the day-to-day, monthly, and year-end operations of the Finance Department. Conduct monthly account reconciliations, reports, and roll forwards. Provide support to external auditors during reviews and audits. Assist in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements and daily cash position reporting. Provide assistance within both Costing and Financial areas of the Finance department with work on projects to improve systems and procedures. Review postings within the G/L for accurate accounts and costs at time of receipt. Provides accounting support for review of product margins and costs for existing or new products. Protects organizations value by keeping information confidential. Reconciliation of General Ledger accounts at month-end. Focus on continuous improvement of work with additional attention on reducing and eliminating waste. Participate in monthly G/L closing, preparing journal entries as required. Participate in the annual Physical inventory or Cycle Counting process. Assist with annual audit by external public accounting firm Assist with ad-hoc questions / projects as needed. Requirements PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS Regular and prompt attendance Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Awareness of business trends Familiarity with financial accounting statements Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process Hands-on experience with accounting software packages Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables Accuracy and attention to detail Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with colleagues, vendors, and partners High professionalism and strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Bachelors Degree in with a major in Accounting. Pursuit of CPA, CMA, or MBA a plus. Minimum 2-3 years experience in public accounting or industry experience Cost Accounting Experience a plus. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Demonstrate a focus on continuous improvement and process excellence Strong analytical skills and attention to detail Proficient in MS Excel including Pivot tables, v-lookups, etc. Working knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles Experience in a Laboratory or Hospital environment a plus Knowledge of Quickbooks or other multi-dimensional database a plus Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to maintain confidential information Ability to effectively and efficiently meet tight deadlines Ability to work well both independently and on a team Ability to interact with all levels of the organization Ability to think and reason on your own PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work may be performed in a laboratory environment and exposes the incumbent to normal laboratory hazards and chemicals, including biohazard materials Work in varying degrees of temperature (heated or air conditioned) Position requires sitting, walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
