JOB OVERVIEW

Katzie Development Limited Partnership (KDLP) is seeking to hire several on call (casual) Junior Archaeologists to assist with archaeological fieldwork and related administrative tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent physical health and physically fit.
  • Ability to do strenuous field work such as hand excavations up to 30-40 pounds (lbs), carrying heavy loads and equipment.
  • Ability to work in remote locations, varied terrain and all weather conditions.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including MS Office.
  • Familiarity with databases is as an asset.
  • Familiarity with GIS is an asset.
  • Experience and skills with curation is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills are essential.
  • Must be highly motivated.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and work cooperatively in a team setting.
  • A strong commitment, passion and ability to working collaboratively with staff, First Nations, community representatives and business partners.
  • An understanding (or willingness to learn) of Katzie First Nation culture, tradition and history is preferred.
  • Experience using off-road vehicles is an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of Archaeology in British Columbia.

EDUCATION

An undergraduate degree (or near completion) in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field preferably with a focus on Archaeology.
Successful completion of archaeological field school or equivalent field experience.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in archaeological fieldwork and note taking
  • Support/assist in archaeological field work, including surveys, testing and excavation
  • Participate in site-specific tasks as directed by the management
  • Carrying out Archaeological survey and testing, excavation and other site-specific tasks
  • Assist with artifact analysis, cataloguing and photography,
  • Assist with archaeological reporting and data entry
