ORB Recruitment are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant/Junior Estimator to join our client, an established new build housing developer. This role is ideal for someone looking to begin or advance their career in construction estimating, particularly in residential development.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree, BTEC Diploma, or currently working towards a construction-related qualification.
• Previous experience in new build housing is desirable but not essential.
• Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Strong numerical, analytical, and organisational skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and engage with various stakeholders.
• Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop within the role.

• Assist in the appraisal of new land and development opportunities.
• Conduct detailed take-offs to support feasibility studies and cost planning.
• Assist in preparing accurate cost estimates and project budgets, including materials, labour, and plant.
• Review project specifications and drawings to understand the full scope of works.
• Work collaboratively with Land, Technical, and Design teams to gather necessary inputs for estimations.
• Issue enquiries to suppliers and subcontractors; obtain and analyse competitive quotations.
• Maintain and update cost databases and estimating tools.
• Contribute to the preparation of bid proposals and tender documentation.
• Support senior estimators and the wider commercial team with various tasks as required.
