What you’ll be doing Reporting to the Team Lead you’ll be involved in: Prototype product features based on business requirements; Develop, test, debug, maintain and refactor product features; Develop, test, debug and maintain Perl back end code, SQL queries and front end templates; Develop, update and maintain technical documentation; Provide internal support for system-related questions and issues. Troubleshooting and finding the root causes of issues Communicating with internal/external clients System monitoring Ad-hoc tasks as required Who we’re looking for At PayProp, we prioritise hiring individuals who share our values and possess the right attitudes and behaviours for success. Whilst some of the listed requirements may be important, don’t worry if you don’t meet all of them, we’d still like to hear from you. 2+ years of back end web development experience Object Oriented programming knowledge Familiar with modern MVC web frameworks Understanding of testing and continuous integration Experience with virtual machines for development (VMs) Good database (MySQL) knowledge Experienced with revision control (git) and multi-developer projects Write and maintain technical documentation Strong attention to detail Minimum 2 years professional experience Excellent English communication skills Passionate about learning new languages and technologies Beneficial Experience and Skills: Perl development experience especially with modern MVC frameworks (Mojolicious, Catalyst, Dancer) and testing (Test::Harness, Test::More, Test::Most) Interacting with APIs Linux command line Developing in AWS environment What your impact and success looks like As a Junior Back End and Web Developer we expect your success and impact in the early stages of your career with us to look something like this: Within 1 month: Gain familiarity with Perl language Set up your dev environment Have a high level understanding of what we do Within 3 months: Completed at least one task Be familiar with the platform Be able to resolve issues within dev environment Within 6 months: Work independently Be familiar with code base Actively contribute to the product What’s in it for you?
