Make a difference as Junior Breeder Tomato As a Junior Breeder Tomato, you will play a key role in the development of new tomato rootstock varieties. In this role, your work has a direct impact on global production systems. Your main responsibilities include: Observing, evaluating, and selecting breeding and screening trials, with a strong focus on phenotyping traits which define rootstock performance. Recording, processing, and analyzing data to support selection decisions and gain insight into rootstock effects. Planning, preparing, and executing breeding activities within a data-driven environment. Collaborating intensively with global colleagues in Marketing and Sales, Seed Operations, and Research & Development to ensure alignment. Scouting new technologies and methods that can accelerate and improve the breeding process. Working independently within a supportive team, combining freedom with responsibility. As a Junior Breeder Tomato, you are eager to develop your career in breeding. You are able to manage your own projects, switch easily between tactic thinking and detailed analysis, and thrive in an international context with diverse cultures and perspectives. You will be part of a global Tomato Breeding team consisting of experienced breeders, molecular breeders and assistants. What you bring as a future colleague A MSc degree in Applied Biology, Plant Science, or a related field. A solid foundation in plant breeding—through study, internships, thesis work, or hands‑on breeding experience. Practical understanding of breeding principles, such as selection strategies, trial evaluation, trait scoring and data interpretation A strong affinity for data-driven methods, statistics, and analytical decision-making. Strong analytical skills and a keen eye for detail, especially when differences in traits are subtle. Flexibility, strong intercultural communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds. A proactive, independent, and entrepreneurial mindset—you enjoy freedom and responsibility. Strong communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus). Willingness to travel several times per year. Modern methods of plant breeding are your main professional interest. You can work independently but also enjoy collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
