We are looking for a Junior Commercial Heating Technician / Burner Helper to join our growing field service team. This position is a strong fit for someone with mechanical ability and some hands-on experience in HVAC, heating, electrical work, facilities maintenance, plumbing, pipefitting, auto/diesel repair, or another related mechanical trade. It is designed for someone who wants to build a long-term career in commercial heating service. This is not a senior technician position. It is a hands-on field role for someone who is dependable, eager to learn, comfortable using tools, and willing to work alongside experienced technicians while developing the skills needed to service commercial gas and oil burners, boilers, controls, and related electrical systems. Qualified candidates may have the opportunity for Local Union 638-B enrollment as they develop in the role. Responsibilities Assist senior technicians with the service, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial gas and oil burners. Learn how to work on atmospheric boilers, condensing boilers, Scotch marine fire tube boilers, and related commercial heating equipment. Assist with diagnosing combustion issues, open limits, electrical problems, control issues, and related service calls. Use hand tools, electrical meters, combustion gas analyzers, and other field service equipment under supervision. Help maintain clean, organized work areas, vehicles, tools, and equipment. Follow instructions carefully and ask questions when additional guidance is needed. Communicate professionally with customers, dispatch, supervisors, and other technicians. Complete service reports and job documentation accurately and on time. Follow company safety procedures, customer site requirements, and industry best practices. Participate in overtime, weekend work, and after-hours/on-call opportunities as training and qualifications progress. Interest in building a long-term career in commercial heating service. Comfortable working with hand tools and learning field service equipment. Basic understanding of electrical troubleshooting preferred. Ability to follow instructions carefully and work under the direction of experienced technicians. Reliable, punctual, dependable, and willing to work in the field. Strong work ethic and professional attitude. Good communication skills with customers, supervisors, dispatch, and other technicians. Ability to complete basic service documentation accurately. Willingness to learn about gas and oil burners, boilers, combustion theory, controls, and electrical troubleshooting. Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and participate in after-hours/on-call opportunities as experience grows. Minimum Education and Work Experience High school diploma or equivalent preferred. At least 1 year of hands-on experience in HVAC, heating, electrical, facilities maintenance, plumbing, pipefitting, auto/diesel, or another mechanical trade preferred. Trade school, technical school, or related coursework is a plus. Prior commercial heating, burner, boiler, or field service experience is a plus, but not required.
Responsibilities
