You will be based in our Milan office within our Environment & Health division, collaborating across a multidisciplinary, international network. About the role We are seeking a Junior Consultant with at least 3 years’ experience to support Hydrogeology projects across environmental field investigations, groundwater data interpretation and reporting, and numerical groundwater modelling. You will collaborate with geologists, engineers and environmental scientists on a diverse portfolio of assignments for top‑tier clients, contributing to site characterisation, groundwater resource assessments and remediation projects. Key responsibilities Your key tasks and responsibilities will be: Plan and execute environmental field activities, including groundwater level (piezometric) surveys, hydraulic testing, soil and groundwater sampling in line with QA/QC protocols, and supervision of geotechnical and complex environmental investigations (e.g., drilling). Compile, process and interpret hydrogeological datasets (borehole logs, lithostratigraphic information, slug/pumping test data, groundwater chemistry) and draft high‑quality geological and hydrogeological reports. Setup and calibrate groundwater flow (and, where relevant, mass transport) models using FePEST/FEFLOW; familiarity with MODFLOW is considered an asset. Perform scenario analysis and clearly communicate assumptions, limitations and uncertainties. Carry out advanced statistical analyses on environmental datasets (e.g., time‑series/trend analysis, non‑parametric tests, geostatistics/kriging, outlier detection), using appropriate tools and methods. Contribute to technical deliverables, ensuring quality assurance/quality control and transparent documentation of methodologies and assumptions. Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams and adhere to Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standards during field and office activities. Prepare proposals and reporting in both Italian and English. Qualifications and experience Master’s degree in environmental engineering or geology. At least 3 years’ proven experience in hydrogeology consultancy or engineering geology, or PhD in hydrogeology. Proficiency with hydrogeologic modelling tools (FEFLOW, FePEST, MODFLOW, Whaem), statistical software (R, SPSS, Pro UCL) and programming languages (Python, Matlab, Visual C#); experience with GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS). Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Italian and English. Detail‑oriented, capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously, and effective in team‑oriented environments.
