OVERVIEW

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Controller to join our team. In this role, you will support the financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy in accounting processes and contributing to the overall financial health of the company. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in accounting principles and experience with various accounting software.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Junior Controller is responsible for managing the company’s full cycle accounting operations, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), general ledger maintenance, cash flow monitoring, and financial reporting. This is a hands-on role requiring ownership of all daily, monthly, and year-end accounting functions.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of full-cycle accounting and bookkeeping.
  • Hands-on experience with AP, AR, journal entries, reconciliations, and government remittances.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing).
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online; experience with Procore or other construction/project management software is an asset.
  • Understanding of the construction industry and job costing principles is preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of 2-3 years of full-cycle accounting experience, preferably in the construction or trades industry, with demonstrated ability to manage accounting responsibilities independently.
CPA designation or enrollment preferred.

Responsibilities
  1. Manage daily accounting operations independently, including full-cycle AP and AR processing.
  2. Process vendor invoices, match with purchase orders and packing slips, verify approvals, and post transactions accurately and on time.
  3. Generate and issue customer invoices; monitor receivables and follow up on overdue accounts in a timely and professional manner.
  4. Prepare and post journal entries, maintain the general ledger, and reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly.
  5. Monitor and reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, vendor accounts, and customer accounts; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  6. Calculate and file HST remittances, and other government submissions in compliance with deadlines.
  7. Perform monthly accrual processes and support year-end financial preparation, working with external accountants as needed.
  8. Ensure the accuracy and daily maintenance of QuickBooks Online (QBO), including chart of accounts, classes, and project coding.
  9. Maintain consistency and integration between QBO and the company’s Project Management software(s) (e.g. Procore), ensuring alignment of financial and operational data.
  10. Provide monthly internal financial reports to the President and Vice-President, including job cost summaries, profit forecasts, and cash flow updates.
  11. Assist with budget preparation, variance analysis, and financial planning for both corporate operations and project-specific profitability.
