POSITION OVERVIEW Camp YMCA Kanawana is Québec’s oldest residential summer camp offering leading-edge programming and traditional YMCA values-based camping. Staff members live on site for the duration of the summer, which starts in June and ends in August. Salaries include food, lodging and transportation to and from camp. Junior Counsellors are paired with a cabin/tent group and spend all of their time with their campers. Counsellors sleep in the same cabin/tent as their campers and are responsible for them at all times. Counsellors organize activities for their campers and plan what their campers will be doing throughout the session. Counsellors work as a team of and are equally responsible for their campers. RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in ensuring the safety, security, health and well-being of campers, staff and program participants at all times; Follows policies regarding program delivery, care of campers and staff conduct at all times; Participates in compulsory staff training; Sleeps with assigned cabin/tent group in designated tent or cabin; Assist in leading daily specialized activities (Interest Groups) for campers; Support the planning of group activities for a cabin/tent group for four sessions (each session is twelve days long); Help organizing designated camp activities; Makes sure that program areas and activities are safe, fun, engaging, and well-run; Assist in ensuring that equipment is safe and in excellent condition; Attends regular section meetings; Attends all-staff meetings as required; Reports any safety hazards or maintenance deficiencies to the Section Director; Adhere to the YMCA’s Child Protection Policies and Procedures. Understand and integrate the value of philanthropy in his post and in the Association and participate in activities / fundraising events. QUALIFICATIONS Has a valid First Aid/CPR certificate (training may be offered in May) Fluency in spoken and written French (required). Fluency in spoken and written English (required based on operational needs related to clientele and communications). Is passionate about working with children and the environment Has experience working with children Have no criminal record in connection with employment.
