It provides corporate services (HR, Finance, Digital, Commercial, Security and Estates) across the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT).

The ICS Cyber teamwork within ICS Digital to monitor and protect the systems and services we provide to our customers in DSIT and DESNZ.
We are seeking a Junior Security Analyst. You will be at the forefront of safeguarding our digital assets and data. With a good understanding of the complexities of cyber security, you will be a key part of our cyber team, working with the team to monitor the ever-evolving threat landscape.
The role is critical in monitoring, detecting, analysing, and responding to security incidents and threats with precision. You awareness in security technologies and incident response procedures will be pivotal in protecting our critical systems and data.
Leveraging Azure cybersecurity tools, especially Azure Sentinel, you will ensure vigilant incident and event monitoring. Working with a dedicated team of cyber analysts, you will collaborate closely with our Security Architects and Threat Intelligence Team to maintain and enhance our security posture.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The main aspects of the role will be:

  • Participate in security testing and monitoring.
  • Manage security logs, identifying log sources, collect and store logs.
  • Correlate and triage security incidents.
  • Cyber Incident response planning and preparation.
  • Cyber Incident detection, investigation and analysis.
  • Cyber Incident containment, eradication and recovery.
  • Cyber Incident post incident activity and reporting.
  • Development and implementation of Automation techniques.

And your key responsibilities will involve you:

  • Monitoring and updating the Department’s Cyber Security toolsets providing recommendations for improvements.
  • Working closely with our Senior Security Analysts to identify threats and affect appropriate remediation and configuration / policy changes as a result.
  • Assisting Senior Security Analysts in mapping the current security controls and tools and planning for future states.
  • Assisting the Senior Security Analysts in their role as key technical contacts with external vendors and the NCSC.
  • Assisting in the creation of timely, regular, high-quality reports for all levels of the business that provides information about the effective management of information security in IT systems.
  • Supporting the work of the Security Architect’s in demonstrating appropriate compliances for internal and external auditors.
