Description
SAIC is seeking a Junior Cybersecurity Engineer to support a critical U.S. government agency in the National Capital Region. This role is intended for cybersecurity professionals who have completed an entry-level or associate role and are ready to take on increased technical responsibility within a production security environment. **This hybrid role requires a minimum of three on-site days per week in Washington, DC.** Responsibilities: · Independently perform routine configuration, maintenance, and operational support for enterprise cybersecurity tools including endpoint protection, email and web security, identity platforms, and network security solutions. · Conduct daily health checks, investigate alerts, and perform initial troubleshooting before escalating complex issues. · Support system upgrades, integrations, and enhancements across cloud and hybrid environments. · Maintain accurate documentation for procedures, configurations, and operational changes. · Develop and maintain basic automation scripts using PowerShell, Python, or Bash to support operational efficiency. · Assist with detection logic, alert tuning, and rule optimization to reduce false positives and improve signal quality. · Collaborate with security operations, compliance, and IT teams to support monitoring, reporting, and policy requirements. · Identify and recommend improvements to workflows, tooling usage, and documentation. · Participate in knowledge sharing and contribute to team technical discussions. Requirements: · Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. · 2 or more years of hands-on experience supporting cybersecurity or IT systems in an enterprise or government environment. · Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust requiring U.S. Citizenship. · Practical experience working with one or more categories of security tools (endpoint, identity, network, cloud, or logging platforms). · Working knowledge of Windows and/or Linux systems. · Demonstrated experience with scripting or automation fundamentals using PowerShell, Python, or Bash. · Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while seeking guidance when appropriate. · Strong written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: · Experience working with SIEM, logging, or security analytics platforms. · Exposure to cloud security controls in Azure, AWS, or GCP. · One or more cybersecurity certifications (CompTIA Security+, vendor fundamentals, or equivalent). · Experience supporting federal or regulated environments.
