The Big Data Core is looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated junior data steward research who thrives in a stimulating, multi-disciplinary research environment and can play a supportive role in improving awareness of FAIR research data management practices.

PROJECT

Large-scale (molecular) data has transformed biomedical research into a data intensive research field. The most prominent developments have occurred within genomics, an area of research where next-generation sequencing has transformed the field of (cancer) genetics fundamentally by providing relatively cheap sequencing capabilities to sequence entire genomes within a couple of days, generating hundreds of gigabytes of data per
genome. Within the Princess Máxima Center, the Máxima Genomics program, biobank and molecular diagnostics lab are using these techniques to systematically profile entire patient cohorts for both research and diagnostic applications. Besides genomics, other areas within the life sciences are also expanding rapidly both in data size as well as complexity of the data, for instance research using proteomics, metabolomics or microbiome data.
These data intensive activities require a firm commitment in data stewardship for proper data life cycle management, sharing and reuse of data based on FAIR principles. To achieve this, we are looking for a junior data steward research embedded within the Big Data Core of the Princess Máxima Center.

You will promote and provide support in implementing the FAIR principles (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) in research and data handling according to the GDPR. Next to this, you will help to further develop and engage our data stewardship community. You have the opportunity to set up data management and data access policies for research collaborations. You will work under direct supervision of the data steward research at the Big Data Core and will interact with many different (pre)clinical researchers, bioinformaticians and IT staff.

Specific tasks include:

• Collaborate in writing data management sections for grant application and dataaccess policies for research infrastructure projects
• Provide guidance in data submission to public controlled data repositories
• Guide (preclinical) researchers in writing data management plans (DMPs)
• Check metadata collected for data registration in internal and external registries
• Help to build our data stewardship community, e.g. by organizing meetings
• (Identify opportunities to) increase awareness about FAIR research datamanagement practices
