Description
M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Located in Hong Kong’s WestK, we are one of the leading museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world. This is a fixed-term contract position of 2-year with possibility for renewal subject to organisational needs and individual performance. The Assistant Technologist/Junior Developer role would play a key role in supporting the M+ digital products team. This role involves working closely with the Developers to assist in the development of websites and online platforms. The ideal candidate should have skills in both front-end and back-end development, as well as project management abilities and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively. You will be responsible for: maintain and update existing websites and digital platforms, ensuring optimal performance and reliability; assisting in coding, testing, and debugging software applications to ensure functionality, performance, and user experience meet standards; troubleshoot basic technical issues and provide support for system users as needed; create and maintain clear documentation for code, processes, and technical workflows; work with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and editors, to deliver projects on time and within specifications; and performing any duties from time to time as reasonably as assigned by M+. You should: have an interest in visual culture, whether moving image, design, architecture, or visual art; have experience in specific programming language skills is less important than an applicant’s ability to learn new languages and solve problems creatively; have 2 years of experience in software development or a related technical field; have experience gained from internships, academic coursework, creative coding, or experimentation with APIs is regarded as valuable; have HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript skills; have basic knowledge of databases (e.g., SQL, MySQL, or MongoDB) is an advantage; have experience with automated deployments, cloud hosting, and an interest and enthusiasm for learning DevOps skills; have understanding of version control systems (such as Git); and have excellent communication and teamwork abilities For interested parties, please submit your application with detailed CV on or before following date.
