Chung and Vander Doelen Engineering Ltd. is a PEO licensed consulting engineering firm that fulfills multiple needs of the public and private sectors in the fields of geotechnical, environmental, materials, and wastewater engineering, hydrogeology, and provides inspection services during the construction phase of a wide variety of projects. We have formed strategic alliances with other technical firms, in order to provide multi-disciplinary service to our clients.
Chung & Vander Doelen Engineering is currently seeking a Junior Engineer/EIT to join our Inspection & Materials Testing team in Kitchener, Ontario.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical (Civil or Geological) Engineering
  • Eligible or in the process of obtaining Ontario P.Eng. designation
  • Relevant working experience since graduation is an asset
  • Strong people skills and a desire and ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office and CAD
  • Demonstrating a “Safety-First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Be available for local travel and extended working hours when required
    This position involves work-related travel therefore, a valid driver’s license, insurance, and personal vehicle are required (work-related travel expenses will be compensated). In return for your hard work and dedication, CVD offers a remuneration package made up of an annual salary and profit-sharing. In addition to your salary, you will receive comprehensive benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Carrying out field investigations, including borehole & test pit layout, utility clearances, supervision of drill rigs and/or excavators, logging boreholes and test pits, and surveying
  • Performing construction site reconnaissance, observations, and inspections (for example, concrete testing, soil and asphalt compaction testing, footing inspections, subgrade inspection, retaining wall inspection, building envelope inspections, etc.)
  • Reviewing soil and rock samples in our laboratory, scheduling geotechnical laboratory testing, and compiling test results and borehole logs
  • Review and approve asphalt and concrete mix designs
  • Summarizing and analyzing findings from reconnaissance/inspections, investigations, and lab testing
  • Retaining wall design/drafting
  • QC/QA and adherence to company standards
  • Participating in a team environment
  • Analyzing and modeling slope stability, settlement, foundation design, soil retaining structures, and other geotechnical problems
  • Preparing or assisting with preparing engineering memos and reports under the supervision of a P.Eng.
