Description

Under close supervision from a Transportation Survey Party Chief (Caltrans) the incumbent will learn and perform the routine and nonprofessional tasks required on a field survey crew. The duties will include field survey tasks, office processing and other
related work.
The incumbent assists the Transportation Surveyor/Party Chief or Transportation Surveyor/Lead Worker in the reconnaissance, planning and execution of assigned survey fieldwork. The incumbent will follow safe work practices for vehicle and personal safety. The incumbent will learn the effective organization, care and use of equipment and materials including survey sites, prism poles, digital levels, the total station instruments, scanners, data collectors, GPS receivers, etc. The incumbent will assist in survey operations including topographic data collection, control surveys, land net surveys, construction surveys, utility surveys, etc. using the above listed equipment. The incumbent must accurately communicate by voice or radio data regarding survey related data including topographic code and observation information, staking and positioning information, etc. The incumbent will also assist with by clearing foliage, setting construction stakes, marking staking cards neatly and legibly, making staking sketches and sketches of set control monuments.
