As Junior Estates Officer - Electrical at Manchester Foundation University Trust, you’ll play a vital role in managing the maintenance and performance of complex electrical engineering systems across the Trust’s hospitals and properties covered by the Service Level Agreement. Reporting to the Head of Estates, you’ll ensure all engineering maintenance—including contract work—is completed to the highest standards and fully compliant with legislation.
You will oversee critical electrical plant, equipment, and services, manage the planned maintenance programme, maintain the physical asset register, and support minor schemes and capital works. Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Directly manage the Electrical Services maintenance teams, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Provide technical support to Capital Projects, Cofely, and other Estates personnel.
  • Foster regular consultation and communication within the department and with Heads of Department, Nursing Officers, and staff.
  • Collaborate with Estates officers and teams, translating technical info for non-technical staff and negotiating with contractors and suppliers.
  • Manage contractors on maintenance, upgrades, and alterations, ensuring compliance with specifications, regulations, and health & safety.
  • Maintain strong working relationships across Sodexo and the Trust; participate in out-of-hours “On Call” roster as required.
  • Monitor compliance with Engineering Safe Working Practices per legislation and guidance.
  • Oversee the Planned Preventative Maintenance system, keeping it updated and compliant with current legislation.
  • Ensure comprehensive records of all engineering plant, equipment, and services to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Act as Authorised/Responsible Person for key systems (e.g., HV/LV, lifts, pneumatic tubes, generators, fire alarms, gases, BMS) and assist in contract management and continuous professional development.
