We are looking for an energetic, hardworking individual to join our concrete team in a full-time role as a Junior Estimator. In a junior role, the successful applicant will begin training in all aspects of concrete formwork and construction, with increasingly complex duties including quantity take offs, estimating, project coordination/management, and sales/negotiation. The individual selected will be joining a growing team of like-minded individuals who are dedicated to making Cavanagh Concrete Ltd. and its subsidiary companies the choice supplier for residential and commercial ready-mix and formwork solutions.
Projects range in size from $10,000 to $5,000,000 - from Arnprior to Orleans; offering a wide range of new skills to learn independently and under supervision.
Job Summary: Estimation for concrete supply, concrete formwork and masonry

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Relevant construction/concrete/masonry experience preferred
  • Experience reading and understanding construction drawings and documents
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, B2W or similar estimating software
  • Strong team and communication skills – reading, writing and oral skills in English necessary
  • Ability to work effectively and accurately in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as a team
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure
  • Ability to learn new ideas and concepts
  • Effective negotiating skills
  • Self motivated with a strong work ethic
  • Valid drivers license with access to personal transportation

Responsibilities
  • Accurately interpret and comprehend Architectural/Structural blueprints and other tender documentation
  • Perform direct quantity take-offs from tender drawings
  • Tender reviews and sub-proposal reviews and analysis
  • Prepare job cost estimates
  • Communicate and consult with clients, general contractors and territory managers
  • Customer follow up on submitted tenders/proposals
  • Properly track, and organize direct job costs to accurately forecast future project costs
