About the role: NLPatent is a next-generation patent search platform used by Am Law 100 firms and Fortune 500 companies. We build advanced web applications that help legal professionals search patents, monitor portfolios, and visualise complex patent data relationships. Our platform combines modern frontend architecture with AI-powered semantic search to make patent research faster, smarter, and more intuitive. We’re looking for a Junior Frontend Engineer to join our team and help design and build the core user interfaces that power our patent search and analysis tools. You’ll collaborate closely with designers and backend engineers to create responsive, data-rich applications that transform how users explore and understand patent information. Your work will involve developing complex UI components, implementing interactive features, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our shared component library and design system. This role offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated real-world applications using modern TypeScript, React, and Next.js. You’ll receive mentorship from senior engineers, gain exposure to best practices in scalable frontend architecture, and play a key part in shaping the user experience of a platform trusted by leading law firms and global companies. Experience with frontend development or relevant internships Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/Typescript Familiarity with React Understanding of responsive design principles Experience with version control systems, preferably Git Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment Ability to work 3 days a week onsite in our London office Bonus points for: Exposure to UI/UX design principles Experience with CSS preprocessors (e.g., SASS, LESS) Experience with build tools (e.g., Webpack, Vite) Interested in working with APIs or Python Experience or familiarity with patent data is a plus.
