THE OPPORTUNITY:

Tetra Tech is adding Junior Geotechnical Engineer to our Geotechnical Engineering team based in Calgary, AB

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an Undergraduate degree in either Geotechnical Geological, or Civil Engineering.
  • Experience in a consulting engineering environment would be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
  • Possess good technical writing skills.
  • Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment.
  • Previous experience using AutoCAD, GeoStudio products and MS office is essential.
  • Previous experience working in the geotechnical or civil engineering is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written), teamwork and mentorship skills are essential.
  • Good time management skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision and the ability to contribute to the project by being a team player.
  • Candidates must be prepared to undertake field assignments, generally within western Canada.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the manual field duties required.
  • Must be or eligible to register as an Engineer in Training (EIT) in Alberta.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada without sponsorship.
  • Possess a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent)
Responsibilities
  • Working in all aspects of geotechnical investigations..
  • Supervise geotechnical drilling programs including classification of soils and bedrock.
  • Perform installation of geotechnical instrumentation such as piezometers, vibrating wires, settlement plates, slope inclinometers, etc.).
  • Monitor construction activities such as bearing inspections, pile installation, and deep fills.
  • Evaluating geotechnical conditions for the design and construction of residential, industrial, and commercial facilities.
  • Evaluating geotechnical conditions for the design and construction of infrastructure developments such as roads, culverts, retaining walls, and bridges.
  • Working in all aspects of geotechnical investigations from program proposals, design, field execution to data analysis.
  • Using field data to prepare factual and interpretative engineering reports with the support of senior staff.
  • Communicating with clients, sub-consultants, and internal stakeholders.
  • Assisting senior staff in assigned tasks related to desktop studies, geotechnical analyses, and cost estimate preparation.
  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams in data collections and analyses.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.
