Our Calgary office is seeking a Junior Geotechnical Engineer to support a variety of projects ranging from municipal infrastructure projects to tailings research and design.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage a wide variety of geotechnical projects to meet our client’s needs as well as maintain Thurber’s safety and quality standards;
  • Coordinate and carry out field inspection of construction works and material testing of geotechnical materials;
  • Undertake analysis and design tasks, summarize, review and interpret laboratory data;
  • Prepare and write proposals and technical reports; and,
  • Manage project scope, schedule and budgets.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-graduate degree in a geo-engineering discipline such as Civil Geotechnical Engineering, Geo-Environmental Engineering, or Engineering Geology.
  • Between 1-5 years of relevant experience;
  • Comfortable driving mid to full-sized pickup trucks in urban, rural, and construction environments;
  • Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including local and remote construction sites;
  • Proficiency with spoken and written English language is required; and,
  • Eligible for membership with APEGA.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Graduate Degree (Masters or higher) preferred;
  • Experience with various geotechnical software such as SlopeW, SeepW, Flac, Soilvision, etc.;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; and,
  • Strong computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word-processing).
