Job Overview:
We are seeking a Junior Health and Safety Supervisor to assist in implementation of safety and environmental procedures on the site to ensure that operations are carried out in compliance with legal regulations and company policies. This role will focus on assisting the PSCS Manager to create a safe work environment for all personnel involved in the installation, maintenance, and operation of the solar farm. The supervisor will be expected to enforce safety protocols, conduct risk assessments, and provide training to workers to minimize accidents, injuries, and environmental harm.

Key Responsibilities:
Safety Management:
o Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with local and national health and safety regulations.
o Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, unsafe practices, and areas for improvement.
o Oversee the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure workers adhere to safety guidelines.
o Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and monitor the site’s impact on the surrounding area.
Training and Education:
o Lead safety training programs for new hires and ongoing employee safety development.
o Organize toolbox talks, safety drills, and workshops to continuously educate site personnel on health and safety standards and emergency protocols.
o Maintain accurate training records and ensure certifications are up-to-date.
Risk Assessment and Accident Investigation:
o Conduct risk assessments for all phases of the solar farm’s operations, from construction to ongoing maintenance.
o Assist in the investigation of accidents, incidents, or near misses on-site, analysing root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
o Maintain detailed accident reports, safety records, and logs as required for regulatory compliance.
Emergency Response and Crisis Management:
o Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans, including fire safety, first aid, and evacuation procedures.
o Coordinate first-aid and medical response activities when needed.
o Ensure the availability of first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and emergency equipment on site.
Collaboration with Stakeholders:
o Work closely with site managers, contractors, and other team members to ensure all operations are carried out with safety as a top priority.
o Liaise with regulatory bodies and inspectors during safety audits and inspections.
o Assist in the preparation of safety-related documentation required for project approvals or regulatory compliance.
Qualifications:
o A degree or certification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field. Relevant certifications such as NEBOSH or OSHA are preferred.
o Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in health and safety management, ideally within construction, renewable energy, or similar industries (solar or energy sectors preferred).
o Demonstrated experience in safety supervision in outdoor or industrial settings, with specific exposure to electrical systems or energy generation facilities (desirable).
o Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations relevant to solar farms.
o Ability to conduct safety inspections, risk assessments, and hazard analyses effectively.
o Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey safety policies and procedures clearly to employees.
o Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to act decisively in emergency situations.
o Proficiency with safety management software and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
o High attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety management.
o Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
o Flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced, evolving work environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and walk or stand for extended periods.
  • Capability to climb ladders, walk on uneven ground, and access elevated work platforms.
  • Ability to lift and carry safety equipment or materials (up to 25 kg).

Additional Information:

  • Valid driver’s license would be beneficial.
  • Occasional travel may be required to other solar farm locations or training facilities
