DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.

We’re looking for a Junior Human Resource Officer to provide vital transactional HR services that support the recruitment and retention of a qualified, capable public service across assigned departments. You’ll be a key member of our Human Resource Client Service team, ensuring departments operate within established regulations and policies while making a direct impact every day!

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with clients, managers, and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A relevant degree coupled with at least 1 year of experience in a related field.
  • Relevant education and experience may include:
  • Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Industrial Relations, Commerce (with a focus on HR).
  • Experience in human resources functions such as staffing, onboarding, participation in interview panels, screening applications, coordinating hiring efforts, or maintaining recruitment files.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of departmental recruitment plans, including guiding managers, chairing selection committees, and maintaining comprehensive competition files.
  • Deliver recruitment and retention programs such as the Summer Student Employment Program, Internship Program, and Indigenous Career Gateway Program.
  • Support departments with employee recognition programs by providing advice and coordinating activities related to long service and retirements.
