The Luxembourg Institute of Health is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented [Junior] Legal Counsel to support its Legal Office in delivering high-quality legal services across the Institute. This role is a unique opportunity to work at the crossroads of law, science, and innovation.
As a [Junior] Legal Counsel you will be providing comprehensive legal advice across a wide range of legal matters. The Legal Office delivers legal services to all research departments and administrative units of the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH). It supports LIH researchers with respect to all legal and regulatory aspects of their scientific research activities. It also supports the administrative functions as well as LIH’s management and governing bodies by advising on all relevant legal and compliance risks, helping ensure informed and sound decision-making.
The [Junior] Legal Counsel reports to the Head of the Legal Office.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Advises on a variety of regulatory issues, strategic projects, litigation, and other operational matters;
  • Supports LIH’s research activities by drafting, reviewing, and negotiating research-related agreements, as well as intellectual property and knowledge transfer-related contracts;
  • Facilitates the conclusion and execution of grant agreements with various funding agencies;
  • Advises administrative functions on matters related to purchasing agreements, leases, and supplier issues, including litigation;
  • Monitors and provides guidance on ongoing legislative and regulatory changes in EU and Luxembourg (LU) legislation related to life sciences, digital health, data privacy, health data access, public procurement, and state aid;
  • Assists in drafting and implementing internal policies and procedures concerning various compliance and regulatory topics;
  • Conducts training sessions for internal stakeholders on relevant legal and compliance matters.

KEY SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of law degree (LLB equivalent) and Master’s degree in Law (LLM) from a recognized university;
  • Prior legal work experience would be considered an asset;
  • Previous exposure through internships, coursework, or research in life sciences/health law and intellectual property would represent a strong advantage;
  • Language skills: Fluency in English and French; proficiency in German or Luxembourgish would be an asset;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities;
  • Collaborative team player with a positive mindset;
  • Proactive, reliable, and client-oriented;
  • Strong work ethics.
