Description:
We are looking for a qualified junior Marine Engineer with a Merchant Mariner Credential endorsement to help us support the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) Detachment Far East at Naval Base Guam. The PMRF Detachment Far East at Guam provides mobile missile and torpedo range services in the Western Pacific using Range Support Craft (RSC), Multi-purpose Craft (MPC), High Speed Maneuverable Targets (HSMSTs) and Surface Towed Targets (STTs) to support training operations, and exercises.
The RSC is a 114-foot aluminum vessel. The MPC is a 97-foot aluminum vessel.
The RSC and MPC vessels will be maintained and berthed at Naval Base Guam, Apra Harbor.
This junior engineer role can be a great opportunity to grow into the Chief Engineer role if the employee gains the necessary experience and certifications over time.

The following job functions are basic requirements (but other duties may be assigned, as well):

  • Reports to the Chief Engineer.
  • Performs daily inspections and preventative maintenance on all shipboard equipment and systems.
  • Helps the Chief Engineer operate the propulsion and auxiliary engineering equipment and systems while underway.
  • Helps maintain daily, weekly and monthly logs.
  • Ensures that the vessel is ready for operations at all times.
  • Accurately documents system parameters for all main and auxiliary engineering equipment, monitoring equipment performance while in operation.
  • Assists with Corrective Maintenance, troubleshooting issues with onboard systems.
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of onboard engineering department parts, and supplies.

Requirements:

  • Valid U.S. Coast Guard MMC with a Wiper endorsement. Preferred endorsement as Qualified Member of the Engineering Department (QMED).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the maritime industry working with marine diesel engines and marine pumps and auxiliary systems. Preferred 5 years of experience, including common knowledge of electrical systems.
  • Must be capable of lifting and carrying 50 pounds (lbs).
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Secret Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment. If you do not have a Secret Clearance at time of application, we can sponsor your application for it and walk you through the process.
  • Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical to include Physical, Drug Screen, Vision & Hearing tests, Medical Condition Certification and back X-rays.
  • Experience in a military environment or working on a military facility is preferred.
  • Expert level understanding of all Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is preferred.
