JOB SUMMARY

Rock Petroleum is seeking a motivated and analytical Junior Oil Paper Trader to support our financial trading activities related to oil markets. This role will assist in the trading of oil derivatives (futures, options, and swaps) to hedge physical positions, optimize profitability, and contribute to risk management strategies. The position offers a dynamic learning environment with direct exposure to senior traders and market operations.

REQUIREMENTS

To succeed in this role, you should:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field. CFA Level 1 or other professional certifications are a plus.
  • Have 1-3 years of experience in financial markets, commodities trading, or oil derivatives (internships included).
  • Possess strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret market data and trends.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of futures, options, and swaps and a willingness to learn more about hedging strategies.
  • Show a keen interest in energy markets and financial trading.
  • Have strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a proactive attitude.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with senior traders and different departments.

As a Junior Oil Trader – Paper, your responsibilities will include:

  • Market Research & Analysis: Assist in analyzing global oil markets to identify trends, price movements, and arbitrage opportunities in oil derivatives.
  • Trade Execution Support: Support the execution of trades in oil futures, options, and swaps to manage risk and optimize trading strategies.
  • Portfolio Monitoring: Help track and manage the paper trading portfolio, ensuring alignment with risk management policies.
  • Risk Management Assistance: Work alongside senior traders to monitor and assess market, credit, and liquidity risks.
  • Strategy Development: Contribute to developing and refining trading strategies under the guidance of experienced professionals.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Ensure trading activities comply with internal controls and regulatory requirements while maintaining accurate trade records.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with physical oil traders, risk management teams, and finance departments to support integrated trading strategies.
  • Performance Tracking: Assist in monitoring trading performance against key benchmarks and contribute to refining strategies.
