EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent and one to two years of experience, preferably in municipal operations; or an equivalent combination of education, experiences and licenses.
Must obtain a Grade 4 Massachusetts Wastewater Treatment full operator’s License within two years of employment or will be subject to termination.
Must possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS

Employee must have mechanical and tool skills and must be familiar with engines, mechanical and electrical systems. Must have attention to detail. Must be able to work with others, vendors, customers and the public.

PHYSICAL SKILLS

Administrative work is performed in an office setting requiring sitting, standing, walking. When in the field, requires agility and physical strength, such as moving in or about construction sites or over rough terrain, or standing or walking most of the work period. Work requires lifting heavy objects and carrying them, typically between 50-100 pounds.

MOTOR SKILLS

Duties involve assignments requiring application of hand and eye coordination with finger dexterity and motor coordination.

VISUAL SKILLS

Visual demands require routinely reading documents for general understanding and analytical purposes.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists Plant Operators in the operation and maintenance of the facility and its collection system;
  • Performs and records operation of facility and station equipment and reports needed preventative maintenance;
  • Performs routine maintenance as authorized;
  • Performs mechanical repairs on machinery and piping, controllers and monitoring equipment;
  • Performs routine grease and oil maintenance;
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of all worked performed;
  • Performs maintenance on vehicles, grounds and facilities;
  • Performs cleaning duties as required;
  • Assists septage receiving and keeps corresponding records;
  • Performs a variety of related duties as required.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The nature of work means that errors are usually detected. Consequences of errors, missed deadlines or poor judgment may result in minor confusion, involving minimal time and expense for correction, such as bookkeeping, data entry or failure to follow established procedures.

NATURE AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTS

Relationships are primarily with co-workers, vendors and the public, involving frequent explanation, discussion or interpretation of practices, procedures, regulations or guidelines in order to render service, plan or coordinate work efforts, or resolve operating problems. Other regular contacts are with service recipients and employees of outside organizations. More than ordinary courtesy, tact and diplomacy may be required to resolve complaints or deal with hostile, uncooperative or uninformed persons.
