Liferaft is looking for a motivated and curious Junior Platform Engineer to help support and enhance our OSINT platform. This role will be hybrid in Halifax, NS, or fully remote within Canada.
As a Junior Platform Engineer on the OSINT Engineering team, reporting to the Director, Platform Engineering, you will support the development and operation of infrastructure that powers Liferaft’s open source intelligence platform. Working closely with senior engineers, you’ll contribute to the reliability, scalability, and security of our systems by assisting with cloud infrastructure, deployment tooling, monitoring, and platform automation. This is a hands-on, learning-focused role ideal for someone early in their career who is eager to grow their technical skills while supporting mission-critical services used by global security teams.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU DO AS THE JUNIOR PLATFORM ENGINEER AT LIFERAFT

  • Collaborate with the Director of Platform Engineering, senior team members, and the broader engineering organization to support platform reliability and efficiency
  • Assist in maintaining and improving infrastructure using Terraform and automation tools to manage our AWS and GCP environments
  • Support development teams by helping maintain tools that enable reliable and secure code deployment
  • Contribute to documenting platform systems and processes for internal engineering use
  • Help integrate and maintain CI/CD tooling and dependency scanning processes
  • Participate in monitoring and logging operations using Graylog, Prometheus, and Grafana
  • Assist with maintaining core platform uptime and responding to incidents under supervision
  • Follow guidance to implement basic security best practices and learn how platform security is managed
  • Contribute to disaster recovery and backup activities as part of the team
  • Work on small platform improvement tasks with mentorship and feedback from senior engineers

WHAT YOU NEED TO GET THE JOB DONE

  • 1–2 years of experience working with web technologies, ideally including LAMP-stack components
  • Familiarity with AWS or GCP cloud environments
  • Exposure to tools like Jenkins, or similar CI/CD systems
  • Interest in cloud-native applications, infrastructure as code, and operational tooling
  • Some knowledge of containers such as Docker or Kubernetes is an asset
  • Experience with Elasticsearch or Opensearch is an asset
  • Willingness to learn and grow within a supportive, fast-paced technical environment
