Description Title: Sailing Instructor Company: Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club Location: Mt. Arlington, NJ Starting Pay: Competitive and commensurate with experience Required Schedule: • 8-Week Summer Sailing Season •June 15th - August 16th • Classes taught 4 days a week Tuesday-Friday (weekends free) Job Purpose: Instructors will coach classes from beginner through racing for children ages 7-16 on Optis, Open Skiffs, Nomads and 420s. They will foster a fun, safe environment for young sailors to fall in love with the sport of sailing. Our coaches are expected to be passionate, motivated sailors ready to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with our students and families. What are we looking for? Minimum Requirements 15 years of age or older NJ Boating License Hands on experience in sailing Must be able to meet the physical requirements Physical Requirements: Strong swimmer Understand how to safely operate a powerboat Ability to stand and walk the duration of a scheduled shift Ability to lift/push up to 50 LBS (movement of fleet boats) Continuous repetitive motions Ability to read, write, speak and understand English Strongly Preferred Qualifications: Must have or be willing to complete, the following certifications: US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 or international equivalent NASBLA Safe Powerboat Handling or equivalent CPR and First Aid US Sailing SafeSport What are the Key Responsibilities? Establish respectful and constructive relationships with students and their families. Teach safety, boat handling and sailing theory to students. Develop and follow lesson plans that include dry land and on-the-water drills and inclement weather activities. Responsible for notifying students of any changes in class times, postponement due to weather conditions and make-up dates. Care and maintenance of boats and the junior sailing facility. Help maintain and clean the docks, boats and ground before and after class. Monitor safety of students on and off the water during class and provide on-the-water assistance and/or rescue as situations dictates What can you expect from LHYC?
